View detailsWhat Your Import Needs in Bangladesh
You hold an Import Registration Certificate (IRC), a TIN and chamber membership. For plant products you also take a plant-quarantine import permit for each consignment, valid for four months for plant products and one year for feed.
- Your permit number is quoted on the phytosanitary certificate, with a free-of-soil statement.
- Most food and feed needs a radiation certificate. Spices are exempt.
- Packaged food carries a Bangla label or sub-label that names the importer.
- Bulk bags show the importer's name and contact, weight, manufacturing date and origin.
Duty, SAFTA and Import Taxes
Bangladesh gives concessional rates to SAFTA-origin goods outside its sensitive list. That list covers many farm products, so the SAFTA rate does not apply to every line. Import tax is a stack of customs duty, VAT and advance taxes that varies by HS line. Ask your C&F agent to confirm your rate, then estimate your cost with the Landed Cost Calculator.
Shipping from Gujarat to Bangladesh
Sea cargo loads at Mundra, Kandla or Pipavav and normally reaches Chattogram by transshipment, usually at Colombo. We do not promise a fixed transit time. Vessel, routing and transit are confirmed in writing with each quote.
- Land-port rules differ by product and can change. We check which port accepts your product before we quote.
- India at times restricts exports of items such as wheat and de-oiled rice bran. We confirm your product is free to export.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept an LC from a Bangladeshi bank?
An LC opened at your local bank, at sight or usance, is the normal method for imports into Bangladesh. Terms are agreed with each order and written in your quote.
Does my cargo need a radiation certificate?
Most food and feed entering Bangladesh needs one. It certifies caesium-137 below 50 Bq/kg. Spices such as cumin and turmeric are exempt. Where it applies, the certificate is listed in your quote.
Can my order come by truck or rail through Benapole?
Much India-Bangladesh cargo moves through land ports such as Petrapole-Benapole and Hili. Each port accepts different products, and this can change, so we check the port for your product first.
When should I order chickpeas for Ramadan?
Demand for chickpeas, lentils and spices rises before Ramadan and Eid, so order early. Your import permit is valid for four months, which sets your window. The shipment schedule is confirmed with your quote.
Is Indian maize and soybean meal non-GMO?
GMO foods need approval and labelling in Bangladesh, so feed and grain buyers usually ask for a non-GMO declaration. Each lot is tested and reported on a Certificate of Analysis.
