Indian Sesame Seeds From Gujarat

Elysium Agri Corporation is a sesame seeds exporter in India, based in Jamnagar, Gujarat. We supply natural, hulled and black sesame seeds to importers, tahini and halva makers, bakeries, confectioners and oil millers who buy in full container loads.

Gujarat is one of India's top sesame states and grows both a kharif crop and a large summer crop, so white sesame is available for most of the year. Our office sits close to the Jam Jodhpur and Dhrol sesame mandis in Jamnagar district, and within reach of the Rajkot, Amreli and Unjha markets.

India is one of the world's largest sesame exporters: it shipped about 244,000 tonnes worth US$ 497 million in 2024. The main buyers were South Korea, the USA, Russia, Vietnam and Iraq, followed by Indonesia, China and Saudi Arabia.

BUYER CHECKLIST

Choosing a Sesame Seeds Supplier in India

Before you book sesame from any Indian supplier, check these six points. Here is how Elysium Agri meets each one.

  • Lot-wise Salmonella and ETO report: ask for an NABL lab report for your lot, not a generic one. We send it before loading.
  • Purity by grade: 99/1 and 99.95% are different products; make sure the contract names the grade and cleaning method.
  • Crop and origin: ask for the crop year and origin. Ours is Gujarat, from the current kharif or summer crop.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What sesame seeds does Elysium Agri export?

Elysium Agri exports three sesame products from Gujarat: natural (unhulled) white sesame in 99/1 to 99.95% purity, mechanically hulled white sesame in 99.95 to 99.98% purity, and natural black sesame (kala til) up to 99.95% sortex.

What is the difference between natural, hulled and black sesame?

Natural sesame is white seed with the hull on. Hulled sesame has the hull removed, giving a whiter, milder seed for tahini and bakery. Black sesame keeps a natural black hull and has a stronger taste. Hulled and black usually cost more than natural.

What purity grades of sesame do you offer?

Natural sesame comes in 99/1 (machine-cleaned) and 99.90–99.95% (sortex), plus 98/2 and 95/5 for crushing. Hulled sesame comes in 99.95, 99.97 and 99.98%. Black sesame comes in 99/1 and 99.95% sortex.

Is Indian sesame tested for Salmonella and ethylene oxide?

Yes. Since the 2020 ethylene oxide findings, Indian sesame for the EU needs an official certificate with Salmonella and pesticide results under Annex II of Regulation (EU) 2019/1793. Elysium Agri tests every lot at an NABL-accredited lab, whatever the destination.

When is the sesame crop harvested in India?

India's main kharif sesame crop is harvested in October and November. Gujarat also grows a large summer crop harvested from April to June, so white sesame is available for most of the year.

How many tonnes of sesame fit in a container?

A 20 ft container holds about 19 metric tonnes of sesame seeds in 25 or 50 kg bags, and a 40 ft container about 25–27 tonnes, depending on the shipping line's weight limit.

Which countries import the most sesame from India?

In 2024 India's largest sesame buyers by value were South Korea, the USA, Russia, Vietnam and Iraq, followed by Indonesia, China and Saudi Arabia. India shipped about 244,000 tonnes worth US$ 497 million that year.

What is the HS code for sesame seeds?

Sesame seeds for food use are exported under HS 1207 40 90 (sesamum seeds, other). HS 1207 40 10 is for sesame of seed quality meant for sowing.

Who are sesame seed exporters in Gujarat?

Gujarat has many sesame exporters around Rajkot, Unjha, Amreli and Jamnagar.
