PULSES AND CHICKPEAS • EXPORT TO BANGLADESH

Indian Pulses and Chickpeas for Bangladesh, Timed to Your Ramadan Buying

Lentils, chickpeas, moong, urad and peas from Gujarat, with the documents your LC and import permit call for.

Elysium Agri Corporation exports Indian pulses to commodity importers and wholesalers in Bangladesh: red and green lentils, kabuli and desi chickpeas, green moong, moong mogar, urad, pigeon peas and green peas. Lots are processed at specialist units in Gujarat, tested at an NABL-accredited lab and loaded at Mundra, Kandla or Pipavav.

India shipped about US$123 million of dried pulses to Bangladesh in 2025. Demand for chickpeas (chhola) and lentils rises before Ramadan and Eid. Your import permit, your LC and the shipment date must line up before that peak, so your quote is built around those dates.

What Pulses Need to Enter Bangladesh

Pulses are plant products, so the Plant Quarantine Wing checks them at the port. You apply for the permit, and we prepare the origin-side papers to match it.

  • A plant-quarantine import permit for each consignment, valid for four months.
  • A phytosanitary certificate that quotes your permit number and states the cargo is free of soil.
  • A radiation certificate for Cs-137, with a limit of 50 Bq/kg.
  • A fumigation certificate and a health certificate.
  • A certificate of origin, in the SAFTA form if you claim preference. Many farm products are on Bangladesh's sensitive list, so check the duty for your HS code and estimate the total in the landed cost calculator.

Packing and Shipping

  • Bangladesh wholesalers usually buy in 25 to 50 kg bulk bags.
  • By sea to Chattogram or Mongla with transshipment, or through a land port such as Petrapole-Benapole or Hili. Land-port rules have changed since 2025, so routing and transit are confirmed with each quote.
  • Work out bags per container with the container load calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I book chickpeas for Ramadan?

Earlier than the season suggests. Your permit is valid for four months, the LC must be opened, and the cargo passes radiation and quarantine checks on arrival.

Do pulses need a radiation certificate for Bangladesh?

Yes. Bangladesh asks for a radiation certificate for most food and feed, with a Cs-137 limit of 50 Bq/kg. Spices are exempt, but pulses and chickpeas are not. The certificate is sent with the other shipping documents.

Can I buy against a letter of credit?

An LC opened at a Bangladeshi bank, at sight or usance, is the normal method in this trade. Send the draft LC before it is issued so that the document list and wording can be checked.

Can I check a lot before it is loaded?

Yes. Every export lot has a Certificate of Analysis from an NABL-accredited lab, and you may appoint SGS, Bureau Veritas or Intertek to inspect before loading.
