Onion Powder Price: What Sets It
Dehydrated onion is priced per kilo or per metric tonne FOB. India is the world's largest exporter, and Mahuva prices lead the Indian market.
- Fresh onion crop: the Gujarat white-onion harvest (about Feb–May) and its price set the cost; 8–9 kg of fresh onion make 1 kg dry.
- Cut and grade: fine mesh and low-micro powder cost more than standard 80 mesh.
- Micro grade: steam-sterilised low-micro lots cost more.
- Competition: Egypt, China and the USA also export; India averaged about US$ 1.96/kg in 2024.
- Freight: light cargo means fewer tonnes per container.
Prices move with the crop and the market, so we quote on the day. Tell us your grade, quantity and port for a current FOB, CFR or CIF price.
Tested, Certified and Traceable
Low-micro lots are steam-sterilised; we never use ethylene oxide. Powder is sealed in lined cartons straight after milling because it absorbs moisture.
- White onion from Gujarat farms; peeling, slicing
- Milling, sieving, sortex and magnets / metal detection
- Lot tests: moisture, ash, micro, pesticides
- Packing in lined cartons or bags and export documents

Dehydrated onion powder is dried white onion milled to a fine powder (usually 80–100 mesh). It dissolves into foods and is used in seasonings, soups, sauces and snack coatings.
What is the specification of onion powder for export?
Typically 80–100 mesh, moisture ≤ 5%, total ash ≤ 5%, acid-insoluble ash ≤ 0.5%, hot-water-insoluble solids ≤ 20%, plate count ≤ 10⁵ cfu/g (≤ 10⁴ low-micro), E. coli < 10 cfu/g and Salmonella absent in 25 g.
What is low-micro onion powder?
Low-micro onion powder is steam-sterilised to reduce the plate count, typically to ≤ 10⁴ cfu/g, for ready-to-eat seasonings and snack coatings.
What is the HS code for onion powder?
Onion powder that is not further prepared is exported from India under HS 0712 20 00, the same code as onion flakes.
