Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What are potato flakes?
Potato flakes are cooked, mashed potatoes dried in a thin sheet on heated drums and broken into flakes. They rehydrate into mashed potato and are used in snacks, bakery, soups and ready meals.
What is the specification of potato flakes for export?
Typically moisture ≤ 8%, bulk density 0.25–0.40 g/ml, specks ≤ 25 per 100 g, SO₂ free or < 100 mg/kg, plate count ≤ 10⁴ cfu/g, E. coli < 10 cfu/g and Salmonella absent in 25 g.
What is the difference between potato flakes and potato granules?
Flakes are drum-dried in sheets and release more starch; granules are made by an add-back process that keeps cells intact, giving a fluffier mash. Snack makers use flakes; some food-service mash uses granules.
What is the HS code for potato flakes?
Potato flakes, granules and pellets are exported under HS 1105 20 00. Potato flour and powder are 1105 10 00.
Do your potato flakes contain sulphite?
We offer sulphite-free flakes, and flakes with low sulphite on request.
How many tonnes of potato flakes fit in a container?
About 9.6 MT (480 × 20 kg sacks) in a 20 ft container and about 19–20 MT in a 40 ft high cube.
