PULSES AND CHICKPEAS • EXPORT TO THE UNITED KINGDOM

Indian Chickpeas, Lentils and Moong for UK Packers and Wholesalers

Whole and split pulses, cleaned and sized to your grade, with origin papers for the India-UK trade agreement.

Elysium Agri Corporation exports chickpeas, moong, urad, pigeon peas, lentils and green peas from India to packers, wholesalers and food manufacturers in the United Kingdom. Each lot is cleaned and graded at a specialist unit, tested at an NABL-accredited laboratory and shipped from Mundra, Kandla or Pipavav. India shipped about US$25 million of dried pulses to the UK in 2025.

Pulses are a steady, repeat purchase, so the order is won on consistency. You need the same size, colour and cleaning in every container, whether you pack for supermarkets or supply grocery and catering wholesalers. Send your grade sheet or a reference sample. The lot is matched to it, and you see the Certificate of Analysis before loading.

Importing Indian Pulses into the United Kingdom

The Indian foods named on Great Britain's high-risk list are groundnuts, sesame, seed spices, turmeric and ginger. Pulses are not named among them in the guidance used for this page. Confirm this with your port health authority for your commodity code before you ship.

  • You must be a registered food business in the UK. HMRC handles customs, and Defra and APHA handle plant health.
  • Plant products fall into a high, medium or low plant health risk category. Low-risk goods need no phytosanitary certificate and no pre-notification. We confirm the category for your pulse with your quote.
  • Retail packs carry English labels with a UK address for the food business or the UK importer.
  • Northern Ireland follows EU rules, not the Great Britain rules.

Packing, Origin Papers and Transit

  • The India-UK trade agreement has been in force since 15 July 2026. To claim it, goods must be wholly obtained or sufficiently processed in India and carry an origin declaration or certificate of origin.
  • From Mundra, about 16 days to London Gateway and about 20 days to Felixstowe is typical. Your quote confirms the routing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which chickpea size should I order for the UK market?

It depends on your use. Canners, retail packers and gram flour millers each buy a different grade. Tell us the calibre or count and colour you need, or send a reference sample. No grade is assumed on your behalf.

Do Indian pulses need a health certificate like spices do?

Pulses are not named with the Indian foods on Great Britain's high-risk list, which covers groundnuts, sesame, seed spices, turmeric and ginger. Rules are updated, so ask your port health authority about your commodity code.

Is duty payable on Indian pulses under the India-UK trade agreement?

The Indian government states that about 99% of Indian exports have zero-duty access under the agreement. We have not verified the line for each pulse, so check your commodity code on the UK Trade Tariff.

Can I combine several pulses in one container?

Many wholesalers want chickpeas, moong, urad and lentils in a single load. Each product is documented as its own lot.
