Indian Seed Spices and Turmeric for Saudi Arabia, Tested Against the Residue Limits You Name
Cumin, coriander, fennel, fenugreek, turmeric and dry ginger from Gujarat, with the lab scope agreed before loading.
Elysium Agri Corporation exports cumin, coriander, fennel, fenugreek, black cumin, turmeric and dry ginger from Jamnagar, Gujarat, to spice importers, wholesalers and blenders in Saudi Arabia. Every lot is tested at an NABL-accredited lab and loaded at Mundra, Kandla or Pipavav. India shipped about US$24 million of seed spices to Saudi Arabia in 2025.
The open question for your quality team is residues. SFDA applies the lowest pesticide limit among the Codex, EU and US standards, so a lot that passes elsewhere can still be refused at a Saudi port. You name the limits, and the lab report is prepared against them before loading.

What Spices Need to Clear SFDA
Spices enter the Kingdom under SFDA food rules, and the registrations are in your name as importer.
- Residues: SFDA.FD/GSO 382 takes the lowest of the Codex, EU and US limits. Send your limit list with the enquiry.
- Contaminants and mycotoxins fall under GSO 193. Say if these should appear on the Certificate of Analysis. See lab testing.
- Each spice is registered in your SFDA E-Account before import, with HS code, barcode, ingredients in Arabic and English, and pack images.
- Labels are in Arabic or carry an Arabic translation. Production and expiry dates are printed, not stickered.
- Duty: no India preference applies yet. Most food products pay 5% on CIF value plus 15% VAT.
Packing and Shipping to Saudi Ports
- Pallets were mandatory at Saudi ports from mid-2025, then reported suspended in May 2026. Ask your clearing agent which applies.
- Jeddah Islamic Port and King Abdullah Port are bookable at present. Dammam and Jubail are affected by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Routing and transit are confirmed with each quote.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can cumin be tested against EU residue limits before it ships to Jeddah?
Yes. Every lot is tested at an NABL-accredited lab, and you set the scope. Many buyers send one combined Codex, EU and US limit list. The Certificate of Analysis is shared before loading.
Do plain spices need a halal certificate in Saudi Arabia?
Halal certification is mandatory for meat, poultry and specified processed foods, not for plain plant commodities such as whole seed spices.
Who registers the spices with SFDA?
You do, as the Saudi importer. Product registration and E-Clearance need a commercial registration and an SFDA E-Account. We send the product description, bag artwork and test report for your entry.
Can we check a sample before placing a container order?
Yes. For the shipment itself, you may appoint SGS, Bureau Veritas or Intertek to inspect and draw samples before loading.
