Millet Meal for Animal Feed (Ground Bajra)
Millet meal is coarsely ground pearl millet (bajra), sold as an energy grain for poultry, cattle and pig feed. Elysium Agri supplies feed-grade millet meal ground from Gujarat bajra, with 10–12% protein, more than maize, and moisture below 12%.
Pearl millet can replace much of the maize in broiler diets, and it must be ground before feeding because its hard grain splinters when fed coarse. Gujarat is one of India's main bajra states, so supply is close to our Jamnagar base.

How Much Millet Meal Can Replace Maize?
Pearl millet has more protein and better amino acids than maize, with slightly less energy. Research shows it can replace most or all of the maize in broiler diets.
| Animal | Typical use | Protein vs maize | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Broilers | Replaces 50–100% of maize | Higher (10–12% vs 7–9%) | Grind finely |
| Layers | Up to about 15% of the diet | Higher | Lighter yolk colour than maize |
| Pigs | Replaces 60–75% of maize | Higher | — |
| Cattle and goats | About 10% of the ration | Higher | Energy source |
Figures are from Feedipedia; your nutritionist should set the inclusion rate.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is millet meal?
Millet meal is coarsely or finely ground pearl millet (bajra) used as an energy grain in poultry, cattle and pig feed.
What is the protein content of millet meal?
Pearl millet meal has about 10–12% protein, compared with about 7–9% for maize, plus 4–5% fat and under 3.5% fibre.
Can millet replace maize in poultry feed?
Yes. Research summarised by Feedipedia shows pearl millet can replace 50–100% of the maize in broiler diets and up to about 15% of layer diets.
Why is millet ground before feeding?
Pearl millet has a small, hard grain that animals digest poorly whole, so it is ground into meal before mixing into feed.
What is the HS code for millet meal?
Ground millet meal is usually classified under ITC-HS 1103 19 00 (meal of other cereals); confirm with your customs broker.
How long does millet meal keep?
Ground bajra turns rancid faster than whole grain, so it should be used within about 1–3 months. We grind close to the shipment date.
Who supplies millet meal from India?
Elysium Agri Corporation, based in Jamnagar, Gujarat, supplies feed-grade millet meal ground from Gujarat bajra, tested for moisture and aflatoxin.
