The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) controls food safety. The Ministry of Agriculture handles unprocessed agricultural products, animal feed and seeds. JSMO sets standards and labelling rules, and Jordan Customs clears cargo at Aqaba.
- You must be a registered trader with an importer card from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply.
- You need an import licence: from the Ministry of Agriculture for raw agricultural goods, or from JFDA for specified foods. Please confirm it before we ship.
- Labels must be in Arabic and show product name, manufacturer, net weight, lot number, best-before date, country of origin and storage conditions.
- Genetically engineered content must be declared on consumer packs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a halal certificate for spices, sesame or peanuts in Jordan?
No. In Jordan halal certification is mandatory for meat and poultry, not for plant products. Some buyers still ask for it on processed foods as a commercial preference.
Can the Arabic label be a sticker?
Yes. Jordan accepts an Arabic adhesive sticker on the original pack. It must show the product name, manufacturer, net weight, lot number, best-before date, origin and storage conditions.
Does the certificate of origin need embassy legalisation?
Chamber of commerce certification is accepted in place of consular legalisation. We send the certificate of origin certified by the chamber. If your bank or your import licence asks for anything further, tell us before shipment.
What if I do not hold an importer card?
Jordan penalises shipments consigned to unregistered importers, with the penalty set as a share of the CIF value. Please confirm your importer card and import licence before we book the container, so the consignee details on every document are correct.
How long does shipping to Aqaba take?
We do not quote a fixed transit time, because sailings through the Red Sea can change. Each quote states the loading port, carrier, routing and expected transit for that week, so you can plan your stock on current information.
